Vuepoint, a rapidly growing New York based corporation, is the market leader in the Internet based knowledge transfer space. In the beginning of 2003, Vuepoint established strategic corporate objectives to continue to dominate its market segment and enhance its competitive leadership by developing a new generation of its flagship solution – Vuepoint Learning System. The new product offering is based on the leading edge industry standards and advanced technology platforms, and expands Vuepoint’s world-wide market reach via full support for software-localization and multiple languages.
The combination of the above corporate objectives and the practical considerations of keeping balance between its rapid pace of growth and the need for maintaining a cost effective approach to managing this growth placed typical “better, faster and cheaper” pressures on Vuepoint’s development team. The solution to address these pressures was to augment Vuepoint’s internal development capacity with offshore resources. Key emphasis were placed on offshore provider’s ability to add value to Vuepoint’s already high levels of technological sophistication and advanced development and project management methodology. The offshore vendor selection process was further complicated by placing high demands on the prospective offshore provider’s depth of knowledge in target modern technologies and requirement for availability of a full breadth of service offering, including expertise in language translation and software localization.
After few months of conducting methodical offshore vendor selection process, which included a controlled pilot project, Vuepoint selected BridgeQuest as its strategic offshore service provider. The key factors in this decision process were:
- Experience - BridgeQuest development lab has 11 years of experience in successfully conducting business in Western markets
- Team - BridgeQuest’s development team consists of over 300 software engineers and computer scientists with wide variety of technical skills and deep knowledge base in leading edge technologies
- Services – BridgeQuest offers the ability to service a full range of Vuepoint’s development needs – strategic planning, product development, quality assurance, and software localization which includes user interface and documentation language translations into a variety of European and Asian languages.
Vuepoint chose to adopt BridgeQuest’s time-proven engagement solution of extended R&D teams as on-going operations model for its Offshore Development Center (ODC). Working jointly with BridgeQuest, Vuepoint developed a blueprint for its offshore team’s structure, mix of skills, roles and responsibilities which uniquely addressed their tactical as well as strategic needs. Team-building, the process of selecting individual team members, was conducted during Vuepoint’s two weeks long visit to BridgeQuest lab in St. Petersburg, Russia. Equally as important, BridgeQuest shared with Vuepoint its best practices of managing offshore teams based on its current and past client engagements. The resulting communications and development process between the two organizations combine these practical experiences with targeted individual requirements and unique aspects of Vuepoint’s corporate culture.
“Our strategic relationship with BridgeQuest offers Vuepoint access to large-scale highly talented resource pool, which we can leverage in a flexible manner that matches diverse skill set requirements and the precise timing of our needs. BridgeQuest’s ability to share with us their best practices allowed Vuepoint to achieve operational efficiency and measurable positive results within three months from the start”
– said Michael Grushin, Chief Architect of Vuepoint Corp.
